As above, so below; as within, so without
Dear friends,
As we enter this new season, the words heading this Newsletter and the deeper truths they express, are so well worth consideration and contemplation.
They are central to Hermetic esoteric philosophy, and are echoed in the magical teachings of Christianity.
For you and I they have many layers of meaning. In its simplest form, “as above so below” indicates that what exists in the universe, or macrocosm, exists and is mirrored in the individual and vice versa; and “as within, so without” implies that our inner world of beliefs, thoughts, and emotions is reflected in our outer physical world and also vice versa. This reminds me of the words of the poet Rumi, “You are the both the mirror and the face in the mirror” and the Christian teaching that “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you”, being a state of consciousness rather than a location.
In these times of increasingly rapid changes, as witnessed in our outer daily lives, we need to understand more of what these words are telling us, and what they mean for us.
We are all magicians in the highest possible sense. In our expanding wisdom we find the ways to be creators and real influencers in the process of fully participating in life whilst also observing it closely in what it reveals to us.
Another reference is found in a maxim attributed to Pythagoras; “Know thyself; then thou shall know the Universe and God.” In other words, self-awareness is the way to unlock the knowledge of the cosmos, of divinity and leads to an understanding of our individual place within it. The Universe is both within you and outside you.
I experienced a moment of great insight when, many years ago now, I realised that the human subtle energy system and aura I had been observing and seeking to understand is a mirror of a far greater system of being, even beyond universes. That changed so much for me and has been at the core of my teaching and training ever since.
So I suggest to you that, along with your regular meditations and clearing activities, you take a little time out when you can, maybe with the cup of tea and slice of cake (optional!) and simply enjoy some mental reverie, allowing your mind to drift freely whilst reflecting those words “As above, so below; as within, so without.”
I can assure you that you will find it most enlightening not to say, humbling and empowering. You will grow in the realisation that to change and heal your world, you must change and heal what is inside you: that real power is not to be found in domination but in remembering.
The world needs wise magicians like you right now.
Lots of love, and do join me on my courses if you can.
